[00:57]
ORT is holding an election for three participating member seats and two listener sponsor seats with
[01:03]
terms ending in June 2029 on the board of directors of back porch radio broadcasting
[01:09]
incorporated. A listener sponsor member is anyone who has donated at least $40 in the
[01:14]
12-month period prior to the application deadline. A participating member is anyone
[01:20]
who has voluntarily performed at least five hours of work in each of three consecutive months
[01:25]
within the 12-month period ending three months prior to the annual meeting in June.
[01:30]
If a person is both a participating member and a listener sponsor they must run as a participating
[01:36]
member. Financial acumen, computer literacy, and the willingness to work within a dynamic group to help
[01:41]
shape this great station are all desirable qualifications. People of underrepresented groups
[01:47]
are strongly encouraged to apply. Some committee hours are required outside of board meetings which
[01:52]
are held monthly on the third Wednesday. Need more information? Go to wrtfm.org and click on
[01:59]
the link that says run for the WORT board. Here you'll find an application as well as descriptions
[02:05]
of board duties. The application deadline is Wednesday, April 29th at 5 p.m. Help guide WORT
[02:12]
into the future and run for the board of directors. Not sure if you qualify or have
[02:17]
additional questions? Contact our elections committee at elections at wrtfm.org.
[02:25]
And welcome back after that important announcement. My name is Kirk and I'll be with you for the
[02:30]
next one hour and do stay tuned because after my show comes on the horizon a great world music
[02:37]
variety. But today's theme and I always try to have a theme at least in my mind because that
[02:43]
court helps me stay focused. Today it's stage to screen and vice versa. I don't play a lot of
[02:50]
silver screen musicals and I've had people comment on that so now we're going to do things even
[02:56]
though they started on Broadway they ended up on the silver screen or the little screen in some
[03:00]
cases. So we're going to start off and I would like to play more music than talk but we're going to
[03:06]
start off with things like Annie and Evita and Guys and Dolls which started off on the stage
[03:12]
and then moved to the silver screen and some have become very famous. Guys and Dolls of course with
[03:16]
Marlon Brando and Frank Sinatra but that's what we're doing today. So a little bit of silver
[03:22]
screen in. I hope you enjoy it and sit back relax for the next one hour and enjoy better living through show tunes.
[04:05]
So sis who is the hot tomato in the fancy car? Personal secretary to Oliver Warbucks.
[04:56]
Me Oliver Warbucks? No the billionaire you dumb hotel lives up on Fifth Avenue. Hey Warbucks don't
[05:06]
live on Fifth Avenue. You don't? Where does he live? So what did the secretary want? Tommy Warbucks is
[05:58]
going to adopt Annie. It's rotten off and I despise. Now the lousy kid's going to have everything.
[06:05]
I know it ain't fair. It ain't fair how we scrounge for three or four bucks.
[06:12]
While she gets warm. The little brat while we get peanuts. She's living fat. He holds the key
[06:31]
this little lady to get more bucks instead of less. Maybe we fix the game with something shady.
[06:44]
That put us on tell-off.
[10:35]
For doubt. At times you have a very unladylike way of running out. Run a date with me.
[12:28]
The pickings have been lush. And yet before this evening is over you might give me the brush.
[12:37]
You might forget your manners. You might refuse to stay. And so the best that I can do
[12:45]
is pray. Be a lady tonight. Luck be a lady tonight. Luck if you've ever been a lady to begin with.
[13:00]
Luck be a lady tonight. Luck let a gentleman see. How nice a dame you can be.
[13:12]
I know the way you've treated other guys you've been with. Luck be a lady with me.
[13:17]
A lady doesn't leave her escort. It isn't fair. It isn't nice. A lady doesn't wander all over the room.
[13:30]
And blow on some other guy's dice. So let's keep the party polite. Never get out of my sight.
[13:40]
Stick with me baby. I'm the fella you came in with. Luck be a lady.
[13:46]
Luck be a lady. Luck be a lady tonight.
[14:05]
Luck let a gentleman see. How nice a dame you can be. I know the way you've treated other guys you've been with.
[14:19]
Luck be a lady with me. A lady wouldn't flirt with strangers. She'd have a heart. She'd have a soul.
[14:32]
A lady wouldn't make little snake eyes at me. And I've bet my life on this floor.
[14:38]
So let's keep the party polite. Never get out of my sight. Stick with me baby. I'm the fella you came in with.
[14:49]
Luck be a lady. Luck be a lady. Luck be a lady. Luck be a lady.
[14:59]
And that was from Luck be a lady from Guys and Dolls. The silver screen version with Robert Alda.
[15:18]
That name ring a bell? Alda? Maybe. His son went on to go with Star and Mash, the television series.
[15:25]
Best known for that. But also his son was on Broadway for quite a bit. The Apple Tree and
[15:30]
other shows. Before that we heard somebody who doesn't sing all that often. And that's
[15:34]
Antonio Banderas. He was singing and the money kept rolling in from the movie version of the Vita.
[15:42]
And before that we heard very unusual version of Annie. I say unusual because the singers were
[15:48]
Kathy Bates, Alan Cumming, and Kristin Chenoweth singing Easy Street from Annie. Well we're going
[15:55]
to keep going with our silver screen. A silver screen to the stage or stage to the silver screen
[16:01]
first. So let's put on let's do Hello Dolly. Put on your Sunday clothes which I like. This was on the
[16:07]
this was on the screen of the stage first. It went to the screen so it played the screen version.
[16:15]
Out there there's a world outside of Yonkers. Way out there beyond this hick town Barnaby.
[16:24]
There's a slick town Barnaby. Out there full of shine and full of sparkle. Close your eyes and see it.
[16:37]
Listen Barnaby. Listen Barnaby. Put on your Sunday clothes there's lots of world out there.
[16:53]
Get out the brilliant teen and dime cigars. We're gonna find adventure in the evening air.
[17:04]
Girls in white in a perfume knife with the lights are bright as the star. Put on your Sunday clothes
[17:11]
we're gonna ride through town. In one of those new horse-drawn open cars. We'll see the shows
[17:20]
and down the barnacles and we'll close the town in a whirl. And we won't come home until we've
[17:26]
kissed a girl. Put on your Sunday clothes when you feel down and out strut down the street
[17:36]
and have your picture too. Dressed like a dream your spirits seem to turn a bond.
[17:45]
A Sunday shine is a certain sign that you feel as fine as you know. We need your parasol the
[17:52]
world is all a smile that makes you feel brand new down to your toes. Get out your feathers, your
[18:02]
pattern levers, your feet and muscles and balls. Oh there's no blue Monday in your Sunday.
[18:08]
No Monday in your Sunday. No Monday in your. Put on your Sunday clothes when you feel down.
[18:21]
Swirl down the street and have your picture too. Dressed like a dream your spirits seem to turn a bond.
[18:30]
That Sunday shine is a certain sign that you feel as fine as you know. The parasol the world is all
[18:39]
a smile that makes you feel brand new down to your toes. Put on your feathers, your pattern
[18:48]
levers, your feet and muscles and balls. Shoot, shoot, shoot, you know. Smiling no man wants a
[20:04]
turn. Let me see. Oh Mr. Tucker don't forget Irene and Minnie just forget you ever heard a word from me.
[20:31]
It's Momsy and Popsicle. My dear father. There's been some confusion over rooming here and she's
[21:57]
but of course I'll care for lesson but of course I'll rise above it for I know that's how you'd
[22:06]
want me to respond. Yes there's been some confusion for you see my roommate is
[22:17]
unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe.
[22:27]
What is this feeling so sad and anew? I felt the moment I laid eyes on you. My pulse is rushing.
[22:45]
My head is reeling. Yeah well my face is flushing. What is this feeling of a name?
[22:57]
Adulterated loathing for your face. Your voice. Your clothing. Let's just say I loathe it all.
[23:13]
Free flesh begin to crawl. There's a strange exhilaration. Full detestation.
[23:29]
She's a terror, she's a tartar. We don't mean to show a bias but Galinda you're a martyr.
[23:58]
Well. We're someone's to care for. We just want to tell you.
[24:22]
Need the bird. That's what's us in.
[27:34]
Do you want to just feed the birds? It wasn't cold out today but tomorrow it'll be warm so
[29:28]
you'll we'll be able to do that. That was Julia Andrews from Mary Poppins. We're doing our stage
[29:34]
to screen and vice versa show. So that was on the silver screen first and then it moved to
[29:41]
Broadway in a very large production and then toured of course. And then what is this feeling
[29:47]
from Wicked the soundtrack? The movie with the great Ariana Grande and Cynthia Irie?
[29:53]
Irieo excuse me. And then put on your Sunday clothes from with Michael Crawford
[29:58]
Barbra Streisand and company from Hello Dolly. So if you heard you've watched the movie
[30:04]
uh oh the robot anyway can't just lost it. You can see the critter. You'll know that's what it's
[30:12]
from but let's play something moving on from the motion picture. And a lot of these are being sung
[30:19]
by people who normally would not have been singing on the Broadway stage but did do it or were
[30:25]
mastered later covered with other singers. But let's do from once which was on Broadway first
[30:32]
and this is Glenn Hanley.
[36:10]
and the mice and the rats impossible just the same i'm wishing it impossible
[36:17]
for a plain yellow pumpkin to become a golden carriage impossible for a plain country
[36:25]
pumpkin and a prince to join in marriage and four white mice will never be four white horses
[36:30]
they will such father all infinity of course is impossible
[36:39]
the world is full of zaneism fools who don't believe in sensible rules
[36:46]
and won't believe what sensible people say and because these daft night dopes keep building up
[36:53]
impossible hopes impossible things are happening every day i had to know you wished for it so
[37:13]
hard i just had to do oh oh god now what a beautiful dress oh this old thing it's 832 years
[37:21]
old oh but where are you going what i'm going to take you to the ball oh oh but i've nothing to
[37:29]
wear who says you haven't look at yourself oh how beautiful come on now the ball will be
[37:40]
over before you get there in carriage it's for a plain country pumpkin and a prince to join in
[38:08]
marriage and four white mice are easily turned to horses such quality of course simple the world
[38:21]
is full of zaneism fools who don't believe in sensible rule believe what sensible people say
[38:31]
and because these daft night dopes keep building up impossible hopes impossible things are happening
[38:38]
every day it's possible it's possible it's possible it's possible
[38:54]
it's all that we're going to be married i keep imagining things things that can happen to people
[39:27]
when they are wearing
[41:12]
that was sunday from the flower drum song the original motion picture
[43:18]
soundtrack and we are playing today as i've mentioned several times we'll mention it again
[43:22]
stage to the screen or vice versa and before sunday you heard cinderella that was from this
[43:29]
tiny screen with julie andrews and edith and adams before that falling slowly from once
[43:36]
the motion picture with glenn hansard and margarita and gold so we're going to keep going with our
[43:42]
theme because we got to come up on here we have just a little under a little over 15 17 18
[43:48]
whatever until we have on the horizon the world's best world music and so we're going to keep going
[43:55]
with our theme and this is from i'm going to wash that man right out of our hair from south pacific
[44:03]
the movie of course these the silver screens versions and you're going to have a lot of
[44:07]
chances to dance so please do i'm gonna wash that i'm gonna wash that man right out of my hair
[44:24]
and send him on his way get the picture i'm gonna wave that man right out of my arms i'm gonna
[44:32]
wave that man right out of that man cancel him i'm gonna wash if the man and you if you fly
[45:12]
waste no time make a change ride that man right off your reign him out of your dreams
[45:24]
oh show him what the door is for and wash that wash that wash that ready to dance we've just been
[47:12]
introduced i do not know you well but when the music started something drew me to your side
[47:21]
so many men and girls are in each other's arms it made me think we might be similarly sure shall
[47:48]
we die shall we then say good night in a child when the last the sky shall we still be together
[48:06]
with our arms around each other and shall you be my new roman so clear understanding that this
[48:17]
kind of thing can happen shall we dance shall we dance shall we dance put on your waltz and shoes
[48:34]
this is the part where we dance when the last shall we dance gotta get up and dance now for
[51:40]
do the warp takes its toll but listen closely for very much longer
[52:24]
just a jump to the left i'm clear and say jump to the left i want to thank you very much for
[54:48]
tuning in this sunday and listening to better living through show tunes with your host me
[54:53]

[54:58]

[55:06]

[55:12]

[55:17]

[55:24]
